FIND HEAVEN IN A bank.
In 2022, Meg Saligman, globally recognized public artist (and newly minted Ministry of Awe bank president) launched a non-profit to recover a National Bank building from abandonment (vacant since 1985) and fill it with art and community instead.
With a 30 year career creating public art such as the iconic 8-story high Philly mural “Common Threads,” or Chattanooga's city-block spanning “We Will Not Be Satisfied Until” mural, or the “Knotted Grotto” interactive installation for Pope Francis’ visit that saw participation from 150,000 people.
Meg Saligman knows two things: monumental work and collaboration.
Her approach to leading Ministry of Awe – gathering a local team, community listening, valuing collaboration, empowering voices – is much the same. But now, it takes place inside a bank with no money, where the only currency is the human spirit; the only dividend, awe.
Key collaborators joined Ministry of Awe early on and a pop-up performance experience called “Make Bank” debuted at the Fringe Festival in 2023.
